Sydney: City Hotels and Accommodation
As the biggest city in Australia, it will come as no surprise that Sydney has an enormous and almost bewildering selection of accommodation on offer. Ranging from budget hostels and motels to the most luxurious coastal hotels and apartments, often offering stunning harbour views, hotels in Sydney appeal to all tastes, ages and budgets. The city centre is just 9 km / 6 miles to the north of Sydney Airport (SYD).
A large cluster of hostels are always popular with those travelling to Sydney on a budget and can be found concentrated around the Kings Cross, Bondi, Glebe and Manly areas. Many stylish and chic hotels also lie within these districts.
The northern shore of Sydney is a fairly peaceful area of the city and features less in the way of hotels, with the exception of Manly. For those planning to stay in the city for long periods, apartments and shared houses are regularly advertised in the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper.
Eastern Beaches
Home to some of the city's most spectacular beaches, this part of Sydney contains both Coogee Beach and Bondi Beach, with many superb and reasonably priced hotels nearby. Highlights include the Bondi Beach Bed and Breakfast along Roscoe Street, and the Homestay Hotel on Forest Knoll Avenue. Further accommodation can be found close to Tamarama Beach, known for its scenic cove.
Darling Harbour and Chinatown
Full of colour and character, this region is famed for its Latin charm and nightlife. Many hotels are located in both Chinatown and Darling Harbour, often close to the area's waterfront leisure park. Notable accommodation includes Aaron's Hotels along Ultimo Road, the Hotel Ibis on Murray Street, and the Capitol Square Hotel on the corner of both George Street and Campbell Street.
City Centre, The Rocks and Circular Quay
This combined area forms the true heart of Sydney and is full of history. Many old warehouses in this neighbourhood have been renovated in recent years, transforming the region into a thriving tourist precinct, with regular ferries departing from the Circular Quay. Central hotels include the Hyde Park inn on Elizabeth Street, the Quality Hotel along Goulburn Street, and the Pentura Hotel off Pitt Street.
Manly
A particularly attractive and pleasant part of Sydney, the Manly district lies on the northern side of the city and is full of sightseeing opportunities. Home to both ocean beaches and a busy harbour, hotels in Manly are never far from the action, including the Manly Beach Hut Deluxe Guest house on Pine Street, and the Periwinkle Guest House along the East Esplanade, opposite the harbour beach area.
